Giving to charity benefits yourself
as much or more than it benefits those to whom you give. That reason alone
should be sufficient to justify starting now. If you need more convincing, read
on.
We all admire people who live the credo “It’s better
to give than receive.”
What is charity?
Charity is to give to others
that which belong to you. When
you give to charity you experience happiness. Do you know why? Because when you
let go of the one thing that you love the
most, you get happiness because you give happiness to others. For most people
that one thing is money.
Spiritual science places
more importance on the inner intent (cause) than on the action (effect) of
giving to charity. The one who donates willingly and happily reaps
more benefits than the one who donates under pressure or with the expectation
of return. Your intention should be to lessen the other person’s misery, not to
gain fame or fortune.
Here are some benefits of
charity
1. Protect
and improve our communities
Giving to a charity helps make our communities
better places to live by helping to provide goods and services to people who
might not otherwise have access to them. When we raise the standard of living
for the least able among us, we raise our own standard of living in turn.
2. Feeling happier with yourself
What motivates you more: Having stuff or
feeling good? If you chose the latter, you're not alone. Many have found over
centuries of recorded history that their ultimate satisfaction came from
helping those in need.
3. Promotes
generosity in our children
When your kids see you donating money, they're
much more likely to adopt a giving mindset as they grow up. I write from
personal experience. I let my son know the good that comes from giving rather
than receiving, he now share his pocket money with the poor and the hungry.
4. Bring More Meaning to Your Life
When you donate money to charity, you create
opportunities to meet new people who believe in the same causes that inspire
you. That, and making a real impact on those causes, can infuse your everyday
life with more meaning. If you've been stuck in a rut, whether personally or
professionally, sometimes the simple act of donating cash can do the trick and
reinvigorate your life.
5. Improves
life satisfaction
People who give more to others – in both time and
resources – experience greater satisfaction in life than people who do not. In
fact, communities of people with high levels of giving tend to demonstrate
greater satisfaction within the community than groups of people who do not give
generously. Essentially, you’re going to be happier in your community if it’s
made up of folks who give to one another.
6. Getting back what you give
Some believe that what they give to the world is returned to
them threefold, sevenfold, or even tenfold! Their experiences bear out their
beliefs. The only way you'll find out is to start.
Any gift as charity
is better than no gift. Start at a level you're comfortable with now. Increase
if, or more likely when, you feel able and willing to. Look at what your
generosity does for others, and also observe the good that it does for you.
Final
word
Charity
can be made inform of food items, used cloths, cash donations, furniture’s or
even toys.
Remember,
you wouldn't be able to take your money with you when you die. What you spend
for others is yours. The balance will be at hand for your next life.
When
a person gives charity or does any good deed, his internal believe of,” I am
giving charity,” attracts atoms of merit karma, and when these karmas discharge
as an effect, they will bring a lot of happiness to the giver.
