If you are in the habit of putting on deodorant, lip-gloss, Foundation,
toner, blusher, eyeliner, hairspray, bronzer, shampoo etc. Then you are
obsessed with makeup.
Defiantly you will look pretty, smell nice, and make you
feel younger but for how long, as the saying goes too much of everything is
bad.
Cosmetics today contain a wide range of harmful chemicals
which, if used in excess, slowly damage our skin and body until it is too late
to mend.
Here are 10 of the most common side effects of the cosmetics
that you apply without a second thought:
1.
Prolong use case Headache
Headaches are a common issue
associated with cosmetics. Usually prolonged exposure to extensive makeup leads
to dizziness, tiredness and nausea. It is therefore, very important that while
removing makeup, you remove every trace of it. The fact that cosmetics contain
only chemicals, and some have certain ingredients that, if exposed to directly,
could lead to bouts of unconsciousness. It is probably more harmful for people
who suffer migraines and chronic headaches.
2.
Excessive hair problem
With changing trends in fashion,
there is also a wave of hair trends that comes along. Hair products like hair
gels, hair serums, shampoos, conditioners, and hair sprays contain several
harmful chemicals which set your hair the way you want but end up damaging your
hair in the long run. Extensive use of chemical based hair products could lead
to dandruff, scalp redness, thinning of hair, and even loss of hair. Long term
use of hair color could also lead to hair discoloration.
3.
Eye infection
Use of excessive make-up on and
around the eyes can lead to serious infections, accompanied by redness, watery
eyes and stinging sensations. Applying too many coats of eye shadow creates
considerable damage as the glittery dust which makes your eyes shine also slips
through the corners and ends of the eyelids to cause redness and itching. Too
much mascara can lead to the stopping of eyelash growth or falling of
eyelashes. Mascara also attracts bacteria for breeding, as a result causing
severe eye irritation. Same goes for too much kaajal and eyeliner. Our eyes are
one of the most important and sensitive organs of our body and it would be a
shame if we damage them in our attempts to beautify them.
4.
Skin allergies
There are different types of
allergies possible with excessive use of cosmetics and at times there side
effects even if the usage is limited. The allergies can be of skin, breathing,
eating, hair etc. Skin allergies may be allergy to certain kind of lotions or
creams. Breathing allergies are damage to nose and nasal passage due to intake
of cosmetics by mistake or even deliberate. Eating difficulties as it may
result in glucose intolerance as mentioned earlier as well. Hair allergies are
like allergy to usage of shampoos or conditioners or intolerance of scalp to
certain oil. So with the benefits of cosmetics comes a parcel of never ending
list of allergies you are at risk of. Be careful while choosing your products.
5.
Clogging of Pores and Acne
Cosmetics like foundation and
primer that even out the complexion of your skin and make your skin smooth do
this by smoothening your pores and natural blemishes. This means that your skin
is not allowed to breathe and therefore can end up causing several problems.
Foundations and powders that clog your pores can aggravate acne. It can also
flare up your blemishes, it can cause pimple and cause acne breakout. So, avoid
using oil-based cosmetics and go for non-acnegenic makeup that won’t block your
pores.
6.
Aging
The chemicals used in makeup
contribute to the aging of your skin because they dry out the natural oils and
essential vitamins and minerals present in human skin. This causes your skin to
lose its natural moisture and texture, and it starts to develop wrinkles and
dry patches. Prolonged usage of makeup will make your skin look older than it
actually is. And since it is almost impossible to get the youthful glow back,
cosmetics marketers are launching products that help counter the effect of
aging that has been cause by them.
7.
Damaging to the reproductive organs
Skincare products and deodorants
are directly absorbed by your skin, so it’s very likely that the chemicals used
in these products also seep into your body. A study conducted on rats found
that butyl paraben adversely affects the secretion of testosterone and the
function of the male reproductive system. Though the consumers of cosmetics are
majority women, it’s still important to note the adverse effects parabens can
have on the reproductive system. Parabens are widely used in the skincare
industry and even products labeled natural could have parabens.
8.
Skin discoloration
A number of cosmetics, like creams,
skin toners, sunscreens and blushers can have bleaching and/or darkening
effects on the skin, especially if the products are of inferior quality. Poor
quality cosmetics when used without regulation can lead to marked discoloration
of skin, including patches, redness, brown to gray pigmentation, blotches and
unevenness. You surely don’t want your face to become dotted with brown,
flecked with Grey and look as red as if you've been pinched all over, then you
would do well to use these synthetic skin care products as little as possible.
Also it’s extremely important to use these products only while they are well
within their date of expiry.
9.
Over dependence on cosmetics
The common notion among people is
that they cannot look beautiful or handsome if they missed out on a cosmetic or
just ran out of it. This dependency can lead too many troubles and is nothing
less than an addiction for them. From my personal experience I would like to
add that here are people who can skip occasions or get-togethers if there
cosmetics are not with them or if they can’t do make up. Well with god’s grace
everyone has been given with a good face and I can’t find myself a reason to be
so dependent on cosmetics. Believe me you can look even better without them.
10. Cancer
A majority of chemical cosmetics
available in the market today contain
toxic ingredients that can cause multiple kinds of cancer – breast cancer, skin
cancer and blood cancer. Fragrances containing phthalates, synthetic shampoos
and deodorant sprays and nail polish contaminated with benzene in particular
can be the causes of the worst kinds of cancer. And the worst part is, since
companies try their best to make these products look as innocent as possible,
and because of the lack of consumer awareness regarding their toxicity, people
hardly suspect them to be the cause of their health troubles, until it is too
late.
It’s better to be safe than sorry. Make-up, cosmetics,
grooming products, beautification and body products can be little devils in
disguise. Using chemical based cosmetics regularly can have adverse effects on
your skin and could even lead to permanent damage. The best way to avoid these
side effects of makeup is by reducing the use of cosmetics and switching to
natural or herbal products. And always remember to read the label for harmful
chemicals before you buy.
