11 WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR EYES FROM EXCESSIVE SCREEN TIME

 In today’s world, we spend up to eight-plus hour workdays in front of a computer screen, and then consuming media on our Smart-phone, and aimlessly surfing the web. It’s becoming increasingly necessary to make sure our eyes don’t suffer as a result of our new ways of lives.

Staring at either our computer screen or Smart-phone to our television for a lengthy period is causing more harm to our eye and making us seek for treatment eyes.

Here are some simply but necessary ways of protecting our eyes from the effects of prolong screen time:
1.    Blinking
Studies have shown that we tend to blink less when we stare at the screen. It would be ideal if we from time to time take blinking break, this will be very useful in combating eye dryness.
2.     The screen brightness
Try avoiding bright lights directly into your eyes especially from your screen, this can cause eye strain. Try adjusting the contrast and brightness of your screen; this includes your mobile phones, television, computers and any other media screens
3.    Take regular break
For every 20 minutes, try taking a 20 second break to focus on other things that don’t strain your eyes. This helps the eye muscles to refocus.
4.    Avoid glaring at your screen
Try limit light ray that might reflect off your screen as this will also strain your eyes. Avoid using your computer or device when there is a direct ray of light on it. You can shut the curtains and turn off bright lights. Conceder getting an anti-glare screen around your monitor.
5.    Look away from your screen
From time to time look away from your screen and glance at things that will not affect your eyes
6.    Adjust the size of your text
Enlarge the size of your text written on your screen so that you don’t have to strain your eyes while reading it.
7.    Sit an arm length away
When working on the computer, try sit an arm’s length away, make sure your screen is 20 to 24 inches away. Some might need prescription glasses for this.
8.    Go for regular check up
Get regular eye check up and let your doctor know how many hours you use in front of your screen.
9.    Keep your screen clean.
10.  Give your eye a few days break
Try not to look at your phone or tablets or laptop for some few evenings each week. Give your eyes a break and make sure you have a good night sleep.
11.  Get specific prescribed glasses for computer use
You can ask your Doctor if he can prescribe special tinted lenses for the computer use.
