16 Reasons why soda is bad for your health

One of the most consumed beverages worldwide is soda, and it’s second to water. In some case it is been consumed more than water.
Although, drinking a bottle of soda once in a while wouldn’t kill you, but taking it religiously will lead can lead to a lot of health issues.
Soda, just like smoking cigarettes should come with a warning for the general public.

Numerous studies have shown the negative health effects of drinking soda on your waistline and your teeth. Drinking soda however, has far more health risks than many of us may realize. Regular consumption of sugary drinks is linked to numerous health problems including diabetes, heart disease, asthma, COPD and obesity.
Here are some reasons to avoid drinking soda
1.       Sugar
An average soda has a high level of sugar. An average bottle of Coca-Cola contains least 17 cube of sugar. This is not only bad for the teeth, sugar, especially in liquid form, skyrockets the blood sugar and causes an insulin reaction in the body. Over time, this can lead to diabetes and other health complications.
2.       Artificial sweetners
In diet sodas, aspartame is used as a substitute for sugar, and can actually be more harmful. It has been linked to almost a hundred different health problems including seizures, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, diabetes, and emotional disorders.
3.       Teeth
Drinking soda regularly causes plaque to build up on the teeth and can lead to cavities and gum disease. The acid is what readily dissolves enamel, and just because a soda is diet doesn’t make it acid-light. Adults who drink three or more sodas a day have worse dental health
4.       Diabetes
Given that sugary drinks can lead to insulin resistance, it is not surprising to see that numerous studies link soda consumption with type 2 diabetes. High levels of sugar in soda places a lot of stress on your pancreas, potentially leaving it unable to keep up with the body’s need for insulin.
5.       Kidney
Soda is very bad for your Kidneys. With increase in take of soda, comes the declining of Kidney function. Even more interesting: Since kidney decline was not associated with sugar-sweetened sodas, researchers suspect that the diet sweeteners are responsible.
6.       Obesity
Studies have shown that taken soda does not help in weight loss instead the opposite happens. Studies have shown that the more Soda a person takes, the more risk of being overweight.
7.       Liver
When we consume too much, in the context of a high-carb, high-calorie Western diet, the liver becomes overloaded and turns the fructose into fat
8.       Cancer
The risk of cancer tends to go hand-in-hand with other chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. For this reason, it is not surprising to see that sugary drinks are frequently associated with an increased risk of cancer.
9.       Caffeine
Most sodas contain caffeine, which has been linked to certain cancers, breast lumps, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, and other problems.
10.   Dehydration
Because of the high sugar, sodium and caffeine content in soda, it dehydrates the body and over a long period of time can cause chronic dehydration.
11.   Reproductive issues
Sometimes, the vessel for your beverage is just as harmful. Diet or not, soft drink cans are coated with the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA), which has been linked to everything from heart disease to obesity to reproductive problems. That’s a lot of risk taking for one can of pop.
12.   Heart disease
Studies have also shown that every bottle of soda men takes, makes them to stand the risk of heart disease
13.   No Nutritional benefit
There is absolutely no nutritional value in soda whatsoever. Not only are there many harmful effects of soda, but there are not even any positive benefits to outweigh them. Soda is an unnatural substance that harms the body.
14.   Can make you age faster
Studies have showed that not only does soda make you fat, but it can affect your beauty in a totally different way: accelerated aging, due to the high levels of phosphoric acid in sodas.
15.   Asthma
Studies have showed high levels of soda consumption were positively associated with asthma and COPD.
16.   Addictive to a lot of people
That craving for cola may not just be in your head—your body could actually be addicted. “I have personally seen a client, who formerly consumed three to four colas a day.
When we eat sugar, dopamine is released in the brain, giving us a feeling of pleasure. The human brain is hardwired to seek out activities that release dopamine. Activities that releases huge amounts are especially desirable.
This is actually how addictive drugs like cocaine function, and the reason people can become dependent on them.

Final word
Soda may taste good and it certainly seem to have some addictive properties (ask any self-proclaimed Diet Coke addict!) but the bottom line is that soda isn’t healthy in any amount and there is absolutely no reason or justification for consuming it.
Sure, some will argue that anything in moderation is ok, and in most cases, I’d agree. When it comes to soda, the amount of sugar and additives is so high that I don’t think “moderation” even exists, and it certainly doesn’t exist in the 20 ounce or larger bottles that are so common.
