10 Benefits of African Black Soap

African black soap has been in used for centuries.  Originating in West African countries like Ghana, it’s a natural remedy for skin that's either oily or too dry and for the treatment of skin conditions like acne and psoriasis. Also referred to as "Ose Dudu" or "Alata Simena". this soap can reduce the inflammation and irritation of these conditions. Traditionally made by women in these countries, the process of making this unscented soap can take several days and has to be done just right for the maximum benefit.

African black soap is revered for having skin nourishing benefits due to an abundance of antioxidants.  The soap is made from the ashes of plantain skin, cocoa pod and palm leaves, and palm oil from leaves or kernels.  Some additional ingredients, depending on the makers of the soap, could be honey to soften skin and Shea butter or cocoa butter for extra moisturizing properties (some black soap is more potent than others and can be drying).

You can dilute soap with water and leave on your scalp for ten minutes if you have oily hair. If your hair is normal or dry, dilute a little black soap with a conditioning oil, massage into your scalp and rinse off. Black soap is powerful, so finish by rinsing with apple cider vinegar to help de-tangle and soften your hair.

10.    Alleviates Razor Bumps & In Grown Hairs
