THE Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has charged police officers in the country to discharge their duties with the fear of God, saying it is only by doing so that the country could have a more favourable security situation.
Mr Arase gave this charge during the opening ceremony of this year’s Pan African Christian Police Association Conference (PACPAC), at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Redemption Camp, Ogun State last Monday, November 9, 2015.
Represented by the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Mr Leye Oyebade, the Inspector-General said police are the watchmen of the society, “noting that in order to succeed in spite of the challenges we are faced with, then we must put God first in our dealings.
“As God’s watchmen, we must impact the police community positively, and to do this, we must walk in unity with God,” Mr Arase said.
In his exhortation, the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, described police officers’ work as a mandate from God, saying it is important they allow God to lead them in everything they do.
“Your task is enormous; it is the assignment God has given to you, and you must discharge it with divine instruction in order to be a success.
“But once you make your ways right in the Lord, you will do your work with His fear in your mind,” Pastor Adeboye, who was represented by Pastor Joseph O. Obayemi, said.
While also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Christian Police Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN), AIG James Caulcrick, said the theme of this year’s conference,Christian Police as God’s Watchman was “apt for this season in the face of the current challenges in the African region and the world at large.
“It needs no emphasis that we are in perilous times and it behoves us as Christian police officers to stand in the gap,” AIG Caulcrick said.
The one-week conference, which had as its theme, ‘The Police as God’s Watchman,’ had in attendance police officers from Burundi, Ethiopia and Kenya.
