The publisher of THISDAY Newspapers, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena may have surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) over his alleged involvement in the arms deal scandal for interrogation.
He was allegedly received N500 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in the wake of last year general elections.
He was allegedly received N500 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in the wake of last year general elections.
However, Obaigbena had in a letter to the anti-graft commission claimed he received the money on behalf of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), and as a compensation for the bombing of THISDAY premises Abuja by the Boko Haram terrorists.
The disclosure of names of other newspapers that also benefitted from the largesse has made some to return the N9m given for the loss suffered in the wake of impounding some newspapers by the military last year before the election.
It remains unknown if Obaigbena, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters about 10:00am was still there at the time of filing this report.
There was no official confirmation of the story as the spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren was unable to pick his calls or respond to the sms sent to his phone last night.
