‘Over 700,000 Nigerians Trafficked For Sex, Organ Removal Annually’

An anti-human trafficking group, the Academy for Prevention of Human Trafficking and other related matters (TAPHOM), has said that about 701, 032 Nigerians are illegally moved out of the country every year for sexual exploitation, organ removal and forced labour.

The academy, a subsidiary of Devatop Centre for Africa Development, in partnership with National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), disclosed this yesterday at a workshop they organised to train participants on modern anti-trafficking schemes.

Rivers: NJC Extends Appointments of Acting Chief Judge, President, Customary Court of Appeal

The  National  Judicial  Council  (NJC) has recommended  the extension  of  the  appointment  of  the acting Chief Judge  of Rivers State, Justice Daisy Okocha from December 1, 2015 to January 15,  2016.

A statement issued yesterday by the Special Assistant to Governor Nyesom Wike on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said the governor has consequently approved of  the extension  of  the  appointment  of the  Okocha  as acting chief judge  of the  state as recommended.

Under very tensed atmosphere characterized by wild protest and physical combat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday finally settled for Alhaji Yahaya Bello (Fair plus)) as its new candidate for next Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in Kogi State.

Bello was confirmed the choice of the party for the late Abubakar Audu’s replacement after leaders of the party rose from a meeting that lasted for about two hours at the APC national secretariat.

This is just as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed yesterday that it has received the nomination of Bello as APC’s replacement for Audu ahead of the supplementary governorship election.

Arms Deal: EFCC Arrests Ex-minister Bashir Yuguda, Sons Of Bafarawa, Mohammed Bello

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arrested a former Minister of State , Finance, Bashir Yuguda,  and the son of former PDP chairman and ex- Minister of Defence, Dr Haliru Bello  over the arms deal scandal involving  the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Others nabbed by the EFCC, in the same alleged theft of funds meant for procuring weapons for soldiers, were Sagir Bafarawa, the son of former Sokoto State governor Attahiru Bafarawa and a director in the office of the former NSA, Shuaibu Salisu.

They arrested persons were said to have received huge funds running into billions of naira from the office of the NSA without clear records detailing how the money was spent.

Yuguda was arrested over his alleged involvement in receipt of questionable large sum of money over arms purchase.
