Ø Group Threatens Nationwide Shutdown over Buhari’s Absence
A pressure group, Concerned
Nigerians, on Monday reiterated its resolve to carry out its earlier threat to
embark on a nationwide protest and occupy the National Assembly as from August
7, if President Muhammadu Buhari fails to resume work as President of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The organization said it had
started mobilizing Nigerians at home and abroad to ensure the realization of
its demand for information on the health status of the President.

The hope-lifting picture of
President Muhammadu Buhari dining with chieftains of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, turned into a political storm, yesterday, after the People’s
Democratic Party, PDP, described it as a collective insult on Nigerians.
Fani-Kayode further alleged that
any message conveyed by Governor Rochas Okorocha, who was said to be in the
delegation cannot pass the barometer of truth. He insists he would not believe
anything that comes from the Imo State governor.

Ø Fulani Herdsmen: Protests Shut Down Enugu Community
Youths, women, children and
traditional rulers of Ozalla community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of
Enugu State, yesterday, besieged the Ozalla police station in protest, seeking
security agents’ protection of the community from the alleged impending
invasion of the community by Fulani herdsmen.
The protesters also blocked
Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway by four-corner junction, apparently to seek
government’s intervention. The police had hectic moment dispersing the
protesters that caused traffic gridlock along the busy highway. They carried
placards with inscriptions such as: “Enugu government, come to our rescue;
Fulani, stop raping our women; Fulani release our chief security officer;
Fulani, restore our farmlands; Fulani herdmen have chased us out of our homes;
SOS: Come to our rescue now; Fulani leave Ozalla alone.” Two monarchs in the
comunity, Igwe Casmir Chibuike and Igwe Crescent Okafor; a Catholic cleric, Rev
Fr. Tobias Anichebe, and other leaders of the community held a meeting with
officials of Ozalla police station to find solution to the situation in the
community

Nigeria needs to invest $267bn on
electricity by 2040
THE G20’s Global Infrastructure
Hub (GI Hub) has called for the investment of $267 billion into Nigeria’s
electricity sector by 2040 to meet rising demand. In its latest report tagged,
Global Infrastructure Outlook, GI Hub, also estimated that the country requires
$878 billion to boost its infrastructure over 25 years. According to the
report, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for electricity and
water, an additional $187 billion will be needed by 2030, bringing the overall
investment needs to $1.06 trillion.
The report also said that
globally, the cost of providing infrastructure to support global economic
growth will reach $94 trillion by 2040, with a further $3.5 trillion needed to
meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for universal household access
to drinking water and electricity by 2030, bringing the total to $97 trillion.
