Tension at UNILORIN over Missing 200 Level Student


Palpable tension has enveloped University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) over the missing of a 200 level student of the institution.
Already, members of the Kwara State Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have commenced a search for the student.

The student, according to our checks, was declared missing last Saturday after attending a keep-fit exercise organised by the "Man o War" club of the university.
The student, whose name was given as Onikenku Michael Atunde of the Department of Science Education, was declared missing after he was said to have entered a river located behind the Park and Gardens area of the institution.
Authorities of the university, it was gathered, have contacted the student’s next of kin.
The spokesperson of the university, Alhaji Kunle Akogun, in a statement issued on Sunday, said: “A member of the Man o’ War club was reported to have been calling for assistance in the river flowing behind the Parks and Garden Unit early Saturday.
“Rescue efforts coordinated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Nike Ijaya, was immediately mounted, search still ongoing. Medical services have been on since yesterday.”
It is feared that the student might have been drowned at the university’s dam site.
