Ø  Suspended NIA DG, Oke, admits Jonathan ordered release of $289m,

The suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ayodele Oke, has met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, where he admitted that his agency received the sum of $289,202,382 on the orders of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015.
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, ordered the suspension of Oke over the role of the NIA in the ownership of $43m (about N13bn) and other currencies uncovered in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, and Lagos.

Ø  Over 30 killed in Calabar while watching Manchester United vs Anderlecht
Over 30 people lost their lives at a football viewing centre in Calabar, Cross River state capital, after electricity cable broke from its mooring and fell on them reports Channels TV.
The football fans were said to have assembled at the centre to watch a UEFA Europa League quarter-final match between Manchester United and Anderlecht on satellite television, a game the host won 2-1 (3-2) on aggregate to advance to the semi-final.

Ø  Osinbajo not qualified to probe SGF —NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. David Babachir Lawal and Director-General of National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke.

This came as Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, yesterday, urged the President to purge his cabinet of corrupt elements, saying “a lot of them have one mess or the other.”

Ø  Lagos State government cannot execute Rev. King – Falana
Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has said that the Lagos State government cannot execute the General Overse­er of the Christian Praying Assem­bly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, aka Rev. King and others on death row.
Falana, who asked Governor Ambode to commute the death penalties passed on the death row inmates in the state to life imprison­ment, argued in a letter dated April 19, 2017, and addressed to Gover­nor Ambode, that the planned exe­cution of death row inmates in the state would violate a subsisting judgment delivered in 2012 by the High Court of Lagos State which ruled that it was illegal and unconstitutional to execute the condemned inmates.

Ø  Olubadan raises alarm over alleged planned attacks on Ibadan
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, the Aje Ogungunniso I, has alerted the police high command of alleged planned attacks on Ibadan by some residents.
Oba Adetunji spoke yesterday at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace while hosting Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Foluso Adebanjo.
