Ø A’Court Affirms CCT Ruling on 15 Charges Against Saraki
The Court of Appeal in Abuja
yesterday upheld the ruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), which had
discharged and acquitted the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on 15
of the 18 false asset declaration charges preferred against him by the federal
government.
However, the appellate court
referred him back to the tribunal to enter his defence on three charges, for
which he had been discharged and acquitted by the CCT.

Ø Lawyers Welcome Appeal Court Judgment on Prosecution of Judges
Senior lawyers in the country have
commended the justices of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal for
upholding the principle of separation of powers when they held that a serving
judge could not be prosecuted until such judge had either been dismissed or
compulsorily retired by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for alleged
corruption.
The justices of the Appeal Court on
Tuesday consequently struck out the corruption charges filed by the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against a serving judge of the Federal
High Court, Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa.

Ø JAMB remits N3b more to Federation Account
The Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board (JAMB) has remitted additional N3.6 billion to the treasury,
its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has said.
He said the N5.2 billion earlier
sent to the treasury was not the total money the board actually transferred to
the government.

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba
Saliu Adetunji, has described the threat by 21 new monarchs to depose him as an
insult to the people and “end of the year entertainment programme.”
Oba Adetunji who said the role of
Olubadan-in-Council was advisory declared that the new kings had no powers to
either remove him from office or recommend his deposition.

Ø Estate surveyor boss dies while delivering speech at ICPC
The Chairman, Estate Surveyors and
Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria, Mr. Olayinka Sonaike, has died.
Among other responsibilities,
ESVABORN is charged with registering persons who are fit and qualify to serve
and practice as estate surveyors and valuers; and also regulate the knowledge
and the general practice of the profession.
